Description

Communities across the globe are discovering widespread environmental contamination of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as "forever chemicals." These persistent chemicals present major challenges to environmental and public health agencies, scientists, and the public, who are working to remediate pollution and minimize exposure. The US has recently adopted enforceable drinking water standards for six PFAS chemicals. In this Water Cooler Talk, environmental toxicologist and public health researcher Dr. Kimberly Garrett will discuss the history of PFAS, current challenges, and speak on PFAS in Pennsylvania and what the new federal guidelines mean for water utilities.
