Recommendations for Conducting Fish Habitat Assessments in Tidal Waters of the Chesapeake Bay

Subject matter experts were consulted through two virtual meetings in October 2020 to provide feedback on the (tidal fish habitat assessment) pilot framework structure: the types of data to apply to the framework, methods to integrate various datasets into the framework, and the types of analysis feasible to conduct using the framework. A robust set of read-ahead materials was developed and delivered to participants prior to the meetings. During the workshops, a large amount of feedback was offered and catalogued.

Chesapeake Bay Watershed Fish Observation Map

This map summarizes data compiled within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Inland Fisheries Database which comprises fish sampling data collected by federal and state agencies, river basin commissions, universities and other organizations across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The information constituted therein describe whether species were observed in at least one sample within each HUC 12 (Hydrologic Unit Code) of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Chesapeake Bay Fish Habitat Summary of Stakeholder Feedback/Needs

This report contains targeted interviews focused on stakeholders whose management or project jurisdictions were in three habitat types: non-tidal, tidal fresh, and tidal estuarine waters of the Chesapeake Bay. These stakeholders included fishery/resource managers, land-use planners, and environmental consultants/reviewers.
