2022 and 2023 Maryland Oyster Reef Monitoring Report
This report is an analysis of data from the “10 Tributaries” Sanctuary Oyster Restoration Initiative in Maryland. The data discussed in this report were collected in fall 2022 and fall 2023. Trends observed in previous monitoring years generally continued in 2022 and 2023, with a large majority of restored reefs meeting the four Oyster Metrics success criteria measured (oyster density, oyster biomass, multiple year classes and shell budget).
Pilot Framework for Fish Habitat Assessments Across Tidal and Non-Tidal Waters in the Patuxent River Basin
This framework was created through a collaboration between USGS and NOAA to support the CBP’s Sustainable Fisheries GIT. The framework explores and develops methods for a pilot assessment that will inform managers about the condition of fish habitats in both the estuarine and inland portions of Chesapeake Bay rivers.

Published in ReportPublished by the Forage Action Team in November 2023, this report summarizes the status of different forage species found within the Chesapeake Bay. It is a culmination of research conducted from 2014 to 2023, and can be used to assess whether key predator populations have enough food. It also identifies remaining knowledge gaps and a path forward for the development of forage indicators.

This report summarizes the results of the 2022 and 2023 Blue Crab Winter Dredge Survey, conducted from December to March by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). This report estimates the abundance of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay. The information in this report is used to assess blue crab stock status relative to female-specific management reference points. The results of this report will be reviewed by the Chesapeake Bay Stock Assessment Committee (CBSAC) in spring to develop management recommendations for the jurisdictions.
